My therapeutic approach is grounded in 3 core values:
Empathy, Authenticity,
& Collaboration.
Empathic Attunement
(creates safety & depth)
Empathic attunement says, "I hear what you say, and I sense what you don't say."
It allows me to help you find the words for your unspoken meaning and pain, and to trust that I can truly hold it - without minimizing, distorting, or shying from it.
When therapy feels truly safe, depth occurs organically as people begin to access and attend to forgotten, buried, & avoided thoughts and emotions for the first time.
Authenticity
(nurtures freedom, connection, & familiarity )
I show up as my authentic self because I'm hoping you'll be your whole, interestingly human self too! This is how we build the genuine connection of a strong therapeutic relationship.
I'm also transparent about my ideas and the therapy process because I value clarity myself, & believe that therapy can't feel safe without the trust and predictability that honest communication creates.
As an added bonus, authentic connection tends to bring laughter and lightness into the room!
We work as a team: you have the data (no one knows you like you!) and I have the training that will help us make sense of it.
You'll play an active role in therapy by creating goals, getting curious about your inner workings and past experiences, and giving feedback on interventions.
The whole point of therapy is for you to eventually feel empowered to process, self-soothe, and grow on your own. Collaborative therapy supports the development of the insight and skills necessary to do that.
Collaboration
(ensures effectiveness & empowerment)
